Classroom Procedures

The academic school day is 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Extended Day Care is availble before and after school

The school is open 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Curriculum… on a typical day, the children work with the materials of their choice. Each child works at his/her own pace and the teacher interacts with each child individually in each subject and guides them according to his/her individual needs.

Napping… sleeping facilities are provided for the children who need an afternoon nap. Children who lie down to nap and do not fall asleep, can get up and rejoin the other children in the classroom.

The Montessori concept of discipline… Montessori discipline is an “inner discipline”, an inner control which the child develops over his own behavior through working with the Montessori materials. Dr. Maria Montessori noted that so-called undisciplined children were really frustrated because of a lack of proper stimulation and inadequate opportunity to achieve. She noted that they became happier and self-controlled after a period of time in a Montessori class in which they experienced challenging tasks absorbing their energies and resulting in a sense of achievement. The teacher’s positive attitude, knowledge about the true Montessori method, and understanding of real freedom within limits for the child helps children to develop and to arrive at an inner discipline.

Conferences… there will be two conferences with your child’s teacher during the academic year. The second conference will include a written progress report.
